apart from that are there any suggestions? is it possible that my video card has got a fault on it or is it more likely to be just a software problem.Make sure you have your Media Player set to download codecs automaticallyĬlick the arrow below the Now Playing tab, and then click More Options.
I am gonna try installing some of the older drivers for my card to see if that helps. I believe that when i am getting a green screen (or black screen in media player) the hardware acceleration is working and decoding the file, but not outpiting the To me this is suggesting strongly that the problem is the video card hardware acceleration. Using vista media centre decoder utility setting the video decoder to elecard mpeg 2 hd decoder (one i randomly found on the web) (i assume this codec doesn t support hw acceleration) In power dvd if I get a good picture but cpu usage is high and the tick box to enable h/w acceleration is greyed out. Using vista media centre decoder utility setting the video and audio decoders to power dvd ones In power dvd if h/w decoding is disabled i get a good picture (but pretty high cpu usage) In power dvd if h/w decoding is enabled i get a green screen (i can hear audio) cpu usage is low Using vista media centre decoder utility setting the video and audio decoders to microsofts ones When h/w acceleration is off i get a good picture but it is very jerky (i def need h/w acceleration to make hd content watchable) When hardware acceleration is on I get a green screen (i can hear audio and cpu usage is low) Ok, been doing some more tests to try and zero in on what is causing the problem. When you next run media player it will use the ATI MPEG Video Decoder to and you will see the video and hear the audio. Go ahead and set it by clicking 'Yes' and then 'OK'.
It give you a warning about 'AS-IS' blah, blah, blah. When it comes up it will have the default video decoder set to Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder, but if you select the drop-down menu you wll also see the ATI MPEG Video Decoder. Next you run the Vista Media Center Default Decoders utility. I ignored any complaint it made about Media Player 10 incompatibility because I selected the ATI MPEG Video Decoder and then clicked the 'Set as Preferred' button.
Got a couple of other choices like the ffdshow video Decoder and the CBVA DMO wrapper filter. If you have an ATI card you probably have the same choice, but I've also On my system one of the choices is the ATI MPEG Video Decoder. Once those are installed run the XP application first: It will give you a list of MPEG-2 decoders that are installed.
You need to download the following 2 microsoft utilities:ġ) Windows XP Video Decoder Checkup Utility: Microsoft CCITT G.711 A-Law and u-Law CODECįraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 Codec (decode only) Here is the technical support data from media player I have updated drivers to latest versions. This all suggests that there is a problem with the media centre codecs being able to use the hardware acceleration on my video card. when the hardware acceleration is on i get a green screen, when it is off i get a picture but it is very stuttery as my machine is a bit underpowered. I also tried playing a mkv hd file (using the divx codec that supports dxva harware acceleration). However, this suggests to me that the problem is with the ati graphics card i have intergrating with windows. with the onboard graphics disabled from the bios i still get no video on the ati card. This was able to diplay mpeg video, but i cannot connect this to my hdtv so it is not a real solution. I have installed vlc media player and dvd play back in that fine, but still not in media player or media centre. My media centre has an onboard graphics card which I have done some testing and come up with some interesting results.įirstly the problem of no video on mpeg playback is in both media player and media centre.
